Announcement poster at Riverside Community Halls 6th March 2012 |
The votes have been officially counted and verified and we can now announce that the walkway along the Clyde adjacent to the Riverside Housing estate will be called HARLAND WAY - from here on.
The name was chosen by the Riverside Youth Club and was a clear winner in the voting.
I heard today from Ethel-May Abel that she has already alerted the River authorities - they will add 'Harland Way Quay' to the River Charts and the mapping section of Glasgow City Council will add Harland Way to the land maps.
I will inscribe the new name into the Waymarkers that I am making for the walkway.
The name Harland refers to the Harland and Wolff shipbuilding yard that occupied the site of the walkway and the Riverside Housing from 1912 till 1963
